L02 is a proposal for a hotel tower in a tropical climate. The project’s diagrid facade also serves structural and shading functions, to maintain column-free floor plans and at the same time large areas of exterior glazing for sweeping views of the Caribbean but with solar protection. Balconies serve a similar shading function, with additional privacy and shading provided by lightweight awnings.
The ovoid tower floor plate allows all rooms to have panoramic views, and the modified ‘u’ plan of the lower floors is based upon common resort master planning typologies - the shape allows for rooms on lower floors to have views while providing a protected zone at the base of the hotel tower for the location of exterior restaurants, bars, pools and other amenities.
